Position Summary

Founded in 1899, Mount Ida College is a small, private college in Newton, Massachusetts, just minutes from Boston which provides career focused programs built upon a strong foundation in the social sciences, humanities and the arts, all developed and implemented to prepare our approximately 1,400 students for success in their chosen fields of endeavor.

The Fashion Design Department within the School of Design seeks qualified adjunct faculty to teach a variety of courses in the Design program. The department is seeking educators and professionals within the industry experience to teach courses for Fall 2017 and Spring 2018.

Tailoring Techniques I
This course focuses on creating standard jackets using classic hand tailoring techniques and more widely used machine methods.

Computer Aided Design for Fashion I
This course is an introduction to Gerber software programs. Student learn to use the plotter and digitizer and begin to manipulate their patterns on the computer.

Draping and Couture Techniques I
This studio course explores the principles and fundamentals of the art of draping.

Draping and Couture Techniques II
In this studio course the students work on draping techniques at a higher level, integrating couture techniques and fabric manipulation into their designs. Foundations are also explored to support the garments.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years’ experience in the industry
  • 2-5 years teaching experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to design with a Master’s degree (MFA) preferred
  • Ability and willingness to engage and work with students
  • Experience developing assessment and course curriculum

Applicants with a relevant work history in the industry are strongly encouraged to apply. Bachelor’s Degree and relevant industry experience required; Master’s Degree (MFA) in related field preferred.
