Position Summary

Founded in 1899, Mount Ida College is a small, private college in Newton, Massachusetts, just minutes from Boston which provides career focused programs built upon a strong foundation in the social sciences, humanities and the arts, all developed and implemented to prepare our approximately 1,400 students for success in their chosen fields of endeavor.

The Photography Department within the School of Design seeks qualified adjunct faculty to teach a variety of courses in the Photography program. The department is seeking educators and professionals within the industry experience to teach courses for Fall 2017.

Class Available:
Concept Dev for Commercial Marketplace
This course presents students with the techniques for conceptualizing and producing engaging, original photographs. This course will cover a variety of approaches for visualizing abstract concepts and ideas for the advertising and editorial marketplace.

History of Photography
This course is a survey of the history of photography from its inception to the present. Addressing the various technological processes and equipment as well as the distinctive narrative elements that shaped the discourse of the photographic medium, making it the most democratic mean of communication in today’s popular culture. Examining important contributors to photography’s history and exploring the medium in its social, political and artistic context.

Documentary and Editorial Photography
This course covers a variety of issues. Students will prepare and present a story proposal, and chronicle a wide variety of cultural events in areas such as sports, politics, and social events. There will also be exploration of creating a timeline and budget, licensing, and techniques such as copyright approval, legal issues, gaining permission, access, editing, as well as image conception and sequencing.

• 5+ years’ experience as a commercial photographer

• 1+ year teaching experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a field related to photography with a Master’s degree (MFA) preferred

• Ability and willingness to engage and work with students

• Experience developing course curriculum and assessment
Applicants with a relevant work history in the industry are strongly encouraged to apply. Bachelor’s Degree and relevant industry experience required; Master’s Degree (MFA) in related field preferred.
